Despite Sabotage, Can Trump Fix Obama’s Mess on US-Russia Relations?

The latest Pentagon report effectively admitted that, during the 2016 elections, President Trump was correct to oppose ineffective sanctions on Russia.

While Russia’s economy faced recession during 2015 and 2016, thanks to Western sanctions initiated in 2014, its economy has made a surprisingly strong recovery during 2017 and 2018. Yet, Democrats continue to hit Russia with sanctions and sanctions after blaming Hillary Clinton’s loss on Russian social media propaganda.

Ultimately, the Democrats may have unintentionally delivered Russia to Chinese hands. “In the wake of Western sanctions against Russia, China has increased investment in Russia’s economy,” the report informed.

However, history has shown that Trump won’t gain any popularity among Democrats for attempting to bring Russia’s economy away from China and back into the Western orbit.

Yet Trump was heavily criticized for speaking to Russian President Putin during the sidelines 2017 G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. Democrats quickly pointed out that Trump spoke to Putin without an US translator, and relying only on the Russian translator, calling it a “breach of national security protocol.” The White House clarified that the US translator specialized in Japanese, not Russian.

What do the Democrats have to say about Hillary’s personal email use being a “breach of national security protocol?”

Even worse was Paul Manafort going to trial and jail after working for Trump’s 2016 campaign. Manafort was charged with being a Russian “foreign agent” after working with Ukrainian election candidates that had Russian ties. Manafort never even directly worked on Russian elections himself. Lastly, why wasn’t he accused of being a “foreign agent” when working on the presidential campaigns of Republicans Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and Bob Dole?

Trump’s 2013 Miss Universe pageant

Finally, even Trump’s 2013 Miss Universe pageant is facing Democrat scrutiny for being hosted in Moscow. But Trump wasn’t even president at that time. And, no, he didn’t get to speak with Putin.

Even when Trump was tough on Russia, the Democrats gave him no credit. The US and Russia continue to support opposing factions in Europe, Venezuela, Syria, and the wider Middle East.

It was Trump who, in 2017, launched Tomahawk cruise missiles against Assad’s army, not Obama.

It was Trump who tightened sanctions on pro-Russian Iran, not Obama, who loosened it.

John Kerry gives a thumbs-up during the Obama Administration’s talks with Iran.

Instead, Democrats criticized Trump for having a phone call with Putin on Friday, despite that Mueller’s report recently revealed that Trump and Putin had no special collusion.

With Democrats heavily opposing even a simple phone call to Putin, it’s difficult for Trump to do the job America elected him for, which is to shape US-Russian relations.
