As Google desperately wants to re-enter the Chinese market after it’s pull-out in 2010, the firm made project ‘Dragonfly’, which is a modified search engine that can censor according to the whims of the Chinese Communist Party.

Even with numerous journalists, activists, and politicians warning about the Trump Administration corroding American democracy, trends have still shown that its netizens will soon be stuck with a censored search engine just like Dragonfly. But here’s the catch: the censorship will be coming from the political left instead.

A mini-American censorship is already a work-in-progress. Google famously reduced the visibility of search results of conservative sites, and fired James Damore for speaking out on affirmative action.

If Google ups the ante by following the footsteps of social media platforms, which is now liberally using outright censorship by deleting conservative posts and comments, then it’s Chinese ‘Dragonfly’ project has effectively been used on Americans. Social medias, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube, are just straight-forwardly banning conservative content. For them, Chinese-style censoring is already here while Google is still contemplating it.

The only difference is that the liberal Silicon Valley’s censorship is creeping, but too stealthy for Americans to know, while Beijing’s censorship is too obvious, even for Chinese netizens, since it comes all of a sudden and notifies users that something is blocked when they search for it.

It’s like a frog sitting in a pot on the stove where the water slowly gets hotter. He doesn’t know to jump out because the temperature is rising too slowly to notice. The frog feels like he’s in a jacuzzi or sauna, instead of being boiled alive, so he relaxes until it’s too late.

That’s happening to liberal Americans. For them, it’s comfortable to see things they don’t like being censored, instead of calling out on censorship.

If they don’t wake up soon enough, all Americans will be stuck with a search engine exactly like Google’s Chinese ‘Dragonfly’.
