Are European Migrants Getting “Brothel Coupons”?

Kyriakos Velopoulo, the founder of the Greek Solution party, a Christian politician, and a TV host, has expressed concern that Greece “may follow” Germany’s example by issuing migrants “free vouchers to brothels so they don’t rape the natives.”

He elaborated stating that, “In Germany, the Syrian or the Afghan migrant goes, gets a coupon twice a week, goes to the brothel, does the work and leaves.”

Leftist European Union nations, most notably Germany and Sweden, have trouble making sure their migrants are law-abiding. The mass sexual assault of over 1,000 native German women by migrants in the 2015-16 New Year’s Eve celebrations has still traumatized many Europeans.

And as the European Union approaches parliamentary elections, the issue of open borders and migrants will only get more controversial. Right-wing politicians have complained that Muslim practices incompatible with Western values have become too rampant in their nations, and ordinary voters are starting to agree.

“This is the Europe I don’t like,” Velopoulo warned, estimating that Greece may also issue brothel coupons “in a short while, let’s say in 2021”.

While his Greek Solution party has no representatives in Europe’s parliament, his right-wing ideology is growing in popularity. Austria’s Sebastian Kurz, Hungary’s Victor Orban, and the Netherlands’ Mark Rutte are all ideologically similar to Velopuolo and have already won national elections.

But Lamprini Rori, who also works in Greece politics, dismissed Velopuolo statements as “[trying] to exploit, manipulate and exacerbate the existing anti-immigrant sentiment in Greece.”

However, these anti-immigrant concerns should not be dismissed as fake news since a 2018 poll by independent think-tank Dianeosis found that over 72% of Greeks believe that the increase of migrants caused an increase of crime.

And even Rori, the pro-liberal skeptic, admitted that patriotic Greeks will “have very strong feelings about religion – in our case, Orthodox Christianity – and are willing to listen to those politicians that promise to preserve it”.
