Is Narcissism Sweeping America?

We’ve all heard about the “liberal wave”, in which many young adults and teens shifted radically left during the 2016 election. But there is another trend among them: rising narcissism.

The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement reports that:

“In data from 37,000 college students, narcissistic personality traits rose just as fast as obesity from the 1980s to the present, with the shift especially pronounced for women. The rise in narcissism is accelerating, with scores rising faster in the 2000s than in previous decades.”

And its quite easy to spot the narcissistic opinions among this “wave”.

Colleges now ban free thought. Narcissists can’t stand being challenged by ideas they don’t comprehend. Instead, they resort to mental “shortcuts” by automatically reacting harshly, sometimes violently. This has led to the rise of belligerent movements, such as “Anti-fa”. Conservative speakers are now banned from visiting and speaking in colleges. Silicon Valley platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Google AdSense, censor unfavorable views.

Besides shutting out opposing thoughts almost automatically, another narcissistic tendency is the lack of empathy. Instead, Narcissists only feel shame. Here, we see the rise of pro-abortionists among the “liberal wave”. Defenseless life forms, such as fetuses, are shown no empathy. Instead, the narcissist is only concerned about “me, me, me”. “How does abortion impact me (and not my baby)?”

Next, the look at the level of entitlement. Narcissists think they’re so great and think that great people deserve the best. Unfortunately, our society doesn’t offer free handouts and that leads to anger. “What, taxpayers doesn’t want to foot my welfare?!” “What, citizens don’t want to give me a free ride to citizenship?” “Voters didn’t choose Hillary Clinton, the one that’ll shape America ideally for me?!”

Hillary Clinton’s 2016 election loss led to extreme levels of upset and anger.

Finally, the tendency of narcissists is to “play victim”. “If I don’t get an abortion, I am the victim of pregnancy (not my baby)”. “I am the victim of hate (not the people being targets for saying unfavorable things).” “I am a victim of our healthcare system (not the taxpayers)”. “I am a victim of police (not the bad guys)”.

We typically see narcissism in our everyday lives. Unfortunately, there’s now enough narcissists to influence American politics.
