Russian History Shows the Consequences of Betraying God

Despite living for 50 years in the former Soviet Union, I never felt at home. But in America, I felt at home after 50 days due to its closeness with God. God is everywhere, from printing “In God We Trust” on dollar bills to saying “One Nation Under God” on the Pledge of Allegiance. I can feel His energy.

America is the freest nation in the world. Americans see the right to worship God, not as a luxury or privilege, but as a right. The US Constitution guarantees the Freedom of Religion, and many nations inspired by American ideals have copied this into their own constitutions. But since men and man-made laws aren’t perfect, we still have a natural tendency to betray God.

Thus, America must remain vigilant in keeping its closeness with the Lord, lest it end up looking like the Soviet Union. The warning signs are starting to happen, from “Merry Christmas” being purged for “Happy Holidays” to a marriage between “a man and a woman” being purged for LGBTQ+ marriage.

It’s a sign that even the most Christian nations can fall into temptation. Over a century ago, Russia had a Soviet-communist revolution, and we went from being Servants of the Lord to being slaves of the state. We gave up churches for gulags, the Holy Father for Karl Marx, the Holy Bible for the Communist Manifesto, prayers for socialist slogans, confessions for witch hunts, charities for wealth distribution, and hard work for long bread lines.

God wants us to work hard, to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Free everything is a temptation we’re supposed to resist.

Russia has yet to fully recover its Christendom. After all, when people picture Russia today, do they first see the effects of 70 years of Soviet-communist hell or the centuries of traditional Christianity before that? Indeed, it’s easier to destroy than to build or recover. A little damage can go a long way.

Because I lived through Russia straying from God and suffering the consequences for the next 70 years, I want to warn you not to let your fellow Americans follow Russian and Soviet footsteps.

Teach progressives that we can’t progress by trashing our tradition. Teach liberals that we don’t need to be liberated from our role as servants to the Lord. Teach leftists that there’s nothing left in our society once they purge our tradition and values.

Because, part of American freedom is feeling the Lord everywhere. As a ex-Soviet citizen, I can tell you from experience that you can never, ever have too much Christianity in society.

Don’t let all the sheep in wolf’s clothing tell you otherwise.
