Older Workers are “thankful for a Trump economy”

Jason DeWhip, aged 59, is a textile plant manager in Nashville, Tennessee. Having been laid off during the Great Recession, he wanted to “thank Trump for giving me a job, which he indirectly did by growing the economy.”

“Older workers like me usually have trouble getting employed after a lay-off,” he said, “even if the layoff wasn’t their fault”.

He also stated that he’s “thankful for a Trump economy that made finding work more easily than ever before”.

“I was still remember what happened ten years ago,” he remarked, “I was laid off due to losing customers and a bad economy. I did nothing wrong.”

Indeed, under the “Trump economy” he just praised, America’s jobless rate is the lowest since 1969. Despite incidents like the trade war and the government shutdown, the economy has yet to be substantially derailed. Even minorities, such as blacks and women, are finding employment relatively easy.

And older workers, such as Jason, are gladly returning to the workforce to build up their retirement after losing out in the Great Recession. According to the Department of Labor, 2.9 million new jobs were created and 1.4 million of those were filled by workers 55 and older.

“I didn’t want to stay unemployed, to feed on taxpayer handouts. I wanted to make my own living and I wanted to contribute to American growth, to be productive,” he said, feeling patriotic.

When asked about the trade war, he expressed confidence that jobs will return to America. Trump already “proved himself. He got back our precious jobs from China, Mexico, India…you name it.”

“I got my job back about three months ago”, which would be around Christmas. He said, “It was the best Christmas present a guy like me can ask for. Trump made American jobs great again”.
