Why America Doesn’t Need to Beat China in the 5G Race

The Chinese Communist Party is betting on winning the 5G race to become the next technological superpower. But an USA Today study conducted on the free market reveals more about 5G than Beijing’s centralized economic planning ever will.

Out of two million respondents, researchers analyzed 1,665 consumers and they revealed the following:

  • 75% desired greater battery capacity
  • 66% desired a “shatter-proof” screen
  • 44% desired storage that is “expandable and removable”
  • 39% desired to use the headphone and charger simultaneously
  • 37% desired the return of the headphone jack
  • 29% desired to replace the lighting port with the almost-universal USB-C connector
  • 18% desired quicker app refreshing

Surprisingly, 5G appears no where on the list.

The CCP won’t be the only one in for a surprise. Even Apple was initially caught off guard with some of the desired features, such as consumers wanting back the headphone jack.

But the difference is that Apple operates in a free market. Both sides are free to purchase or reject any smartphone features they want to buy or sell.

However, China is a different story. If the Communist Party wants 5G, it will have 5G. It doesn’t matter if it’s a race that free market doesn’t want to participate in. But at least this time Beijing’s top-heavy central planning won’t result in mass famine.
